OOTD: Gig Edition, Part 1

Camden has been my favorite haunt in London (in fact, in the whole UK) for quite some time now, so when I decided to collaborate with Pia Meads Photography for some Outfit Of The Day posts, I was over the moon that she suggested we shoot in this awesome, eclectic location. I feel like it fits the vibe I’m trying to portray perfectly; merging style with music and highlighting fashion with an edge. I love gigs, and dressing up for them, so I’ll be running a mini-series from the shoot with that kind of theme in mind. It’s basically the only time I feel like I have dressing appropriately down!

Paramore And PVRIS Don’t Sound The Same. Just Stop.

Pa-ramore. Pa-ris (yes, that’s how you say PVRIS, although without the dash in the middle… keep up). Other than sharing identical prefixes, these two bands are nothing alike – unless you count the fact that their singers both identify as females. In 2015, it shouldn’t be a shock, or valid reason for us to make such brilliant observations as “oh cool, it’s a female fronted band!”. However, sadly, due to a lack of equality and women in the industry, it too often is.

The Ultimate Wedding Venue: Clevedon Hall, Somerset

I’ve been AWOL, very much so, lately, for personal reasons that I have largely neglected to blog about. I went into things briefly in my last post, but for the most part, these things will stay private, at least until I have a better hold on them! So, with that in mind, I was super fortunate to be granted the chance to get away to some solitude for the weekend. Escaping the misery of Peterborough and the craziness of London was nice, and off I headed on a press trip to the grandeur of Clevedon Hall*, a picturesque and recently renovated wedding/celebration/corporate venue just outside of Bristol.

Losing A Close Friend: Five Years On

This is a post I wasn’t sure whether to write, but I personally DO write when there’s something I need to say, and that’s the point. Five years ago today, I lost one of my best friends, Faye Josephine Ogden. Only, I didn’t ‘lose’ her, she died, at just 20 years old. When she was a bit younger, it started as Ovarian cancer, and things seemed to look up after she bravely had all of her treatment. Sadly, the cancer then spread very suddenly after we thought she was in remission, and it attacked all of her organs. One part of me can’t believe it’s been so long, but the other part feels like so much has changed. I’m going to tell you Faye’s story, and how mine has changed forever since her passing.

Ai Fiori, Manhattan, New York City

I’m becoming a Michelin Star restaurant fiend. If that’s a faux pas to make a big thing about, sue me. If I’m going to spend a large proportion of my income on food, I’m going to shout about it. You see, whilst I’m more than comfortable enough to go to these types of places, my bank account still notices. I’m not exactly a millionaire. I’m happy with that though, because Ai Fiori, my third ever Michelin Starred restaurant is memorable to me, because I don’t get to taste food like this every day.

Parahoy: One Year On & How Music Can REALLY Change Lives

If we could go back to my teenage years and ask me precisely what I wanted to do with my life, I’d say absolutely, categorically, that I wanted a career I could be happy in, the opportunity to travel, and the chance to keep on seeing the bands I love, preferably around the world. Nothing’s changed. I’m lucky in that at 25, I’m at least sort of living that dream. Sure, I may be slightly jaded, even disenfranchised somewhat, but stories like this one that I’m about to tell continue to give me hope. In fact, it’s a ton of stories, intertwined into one, inspired by a common love. My one wish is that this hope never dies.

So, You Want To Go To Williamsburg?

If you’re anything like me, you’ve romanticised the hell out of Williamsburg/Greenpoint, in Brooklyn, New York. I’ve come to the conclusion that this is most likely because you either a) love ‘Girls’ (I’m guilty!), or b) wish you were a little bit cooler like Jenny in Gossip Girl – or basically any hip-hop star (also guilty). It’s no coincidence that two of the ‘coolest’ nights out of my life have been in Brooklyn – one was an insanely fun, legitimate Sorority party which ended in me being called ‘snowflake’ repeatedly and rapped at on the subway home (I was one of only two white women in attendance), and the other was a bit of a rock chick soiree. There’s an energy in that borough that makes you feel alive, I swear.

(An) Ultimate Food Tour Of New York

Weird title, huh? Of course I can’t claim to definitively give a guide to where to eat in New York. That would be insane! It’s such a huge place, and I was only there a few days. I can, however, give insight into a few of the greatest places I ate – and wanted to eat - during my recent trip to New York City!
