So, Parahoy 2 has now been and gone, and I for one can’t get over it. We collectively have so many memories, and we’ve made so many new friends. Yet again, Parahoy was something incredibly special. Alumni like myself will relate; Parahoy as an experience is how I imagine motherhood. You love both of your children equally, despite the fact that they are both so, so different. I’d found myself worrying that this time wouldn’t live up to the last, but Parahoy 1 and Parahoy 2 are two totally different things, and each was special in their own unique way. Before I get on with my list, I wanted to direct everyone to my coverage printed in Rock Sound. As a writer, it was awesome to get officially accredited with a media pass to integrate further into this cruise. But anyway. I wrote about the things we were dying to do this time around, so here’s the round up of the things we miss now that it’s all over – ugh!Continue reading →
Parahoy 2016: It’s coming! Whether you’ve got a ticket for this incredible extravaganza or not, you can’t deny that the premise is absolutely INCREDIBLE, and the average Paramore fan would most likely give their record collection or snip off their brightly coloured hair to be able to attend. What is it? It’s a Sixthman cruise, a festival, and a party, all in one – with Paramore. Wow. Now that the Parahoy 2016 schedule has finally been released, I’m already thinking about what I want to do most (even though I know I’m probably going to be too hungover for some of the daytime activities). So, whether you’re playing pretend or you’re literally getting on board, here are the top picks of activities and fun things to do at the best event ever – round two!
WarpedTour is a punk rock institution… and it always will be. There, I’ve said it. You can whine and bitch about how the masses of kids who infiltrate it are “posers” or into way too much pop, but guess what? They don’t care, and in the true spirit of punk, nor should you. As a teenager in the UK I could only dream of going to WarpedTour, and in 2012 I made it a reality when some friends of mine (Rise To Remain, now As Lions) were on the tour playing all summer and they invited me to join them. It was incredible and I became hooked! In total, I’ve been to six Warped USA dates, and a British one, too. This year’s was super fun as always, because who doesn’t love a California catch up?
Nashville, Tennessee is one of my favorite cities in the entire world. I had visited once before, aged 21, and I’ve been dying to go back ever since. This time, I got to see and do even more, and I think everyone ought to experience it for themselves. If you are visiting briefly, as part of a road trip like we were, here’s how to enjoy this amazing place in just one day!
One day, back in November, I was sitting on the sofa, bored, looking at flights – as I often do. Suddenly, I said to Dougie “LET’S GO TO NEW YORK FOR VALENTINE’S!”. I don’t know if I was kidding or what, but anyway, it wound up happening. I’ve wanted to go back to NYC for some time now, and my fifth experience of the city didn’t disappoint. Yes, I go away a lot, and yes, I am lucky. But I’m cursed with wanderlust and blessed with the determination to do what I say I will. Plus, I work pretty hard – the money thing really helps, too!
So, this may be ridiculously late, but I guess in talking about Halloween now, it’s a true Nightmare Before Christmas (oh god….I’ll stop, ha). Dougie and I went for our first proper trip together, to Orlando, and although I’ve posted about the Disney Party and the Universal Party, I kinda skipped on the food and other experiences. So here’s a cute video and some pics to sum it up!
Technically, we attended Halloween Horror Nights on ‘El Día De Los Muertos’ (‘The Day Of The Dead’, a Mexican festival commemorating lost loved ones) and not Halloween, but that was okay because it’s still a super spooky day. Our visit to Disney on Halloween itself was pretty vanilla – as implied in the name of the party, it was ‘Not-So-Scary’. Our venture to Universal for the holiday was a whole other story, and I at least was terrified!
What’s the coolest country in the world? America. Which holiday do they most go all-out for? Halloween. Where’s the land that dreams are made of? Disney, obviously. So why WOULDN’T you want to experience the best it has to offer at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?!
